In particular, major urban centers and ports of entry are potential targets of nuclear attacks, “dirty bomb” attacks and chemical / biological agent attacks. The RadPod sensor provides decision makers with a cost-effective, easy-to-use method for monitoring for dangerous radioactive materials. Each RadPod can function indivi dually or in conjunction with other modular sensors of the ADSS SensorPod™ Network (such as WeatherPod™).
Information on local weather conditions along with the radiation measurement is critical to the successful conduct of evacuation and cleanup plans. When high-resolution RadPods are co-located with WeatherPods in an area representative of the prevailing wind patterns, the combined system of WeatherPods and RadPods provide decision critical information in a timely manner.
The RadPod incorporates a complete spectrum analyzer and scintillating crystal; selected for its energy resolution and luminosity. The system may be augmented with low-cost wireless dosimeters or count rate meters that are deployed along the roadside. Using these sensors the network is able to determine direction and average speed of a radiation source in transport. Embedded communications feed data to a central station where it can be rapidly shared and analyzed. This information is displayed through an ESRI Arcview geospatial information system (GIS), which is capable of incorporating data from a variety of sources.
